What Colors to Wear to an Indian Wedding (Guest Edition)

Indian weddings are not a one-day affair! From the pre-wedding ceremonies to the actual wedding day, we know how difficult it can be to dress the part, so we’re here to help.

When picking out your Indian wedding guest attire, color is super important! Here is our color guide on the latest color trends and what we recommend:

Day 1 – Haldi + Sangeet

At the haldi, a mixture of turmeric, oil, and water is rubbed on the bride and groom. Haldi has the dominant color of the ceremony as yellow! We recommend our Devi lehenga as the perfect monochromatic mango yellow lehenga for this event.

Traditionally, the sangeet which means “sung together” is a pre-wedding party where the family comes together to celebrate with a night of singing and dancing (and of course the family members break out into a choreographed musical performance for the couple!)

Colors: We recommend wearing something bright and colorful! At this dance party, you want to be able to twirl around in something memorable. Our Tara Lehenga is the perfect statement piece for your sangeet.

Day 2 – Mehendi (Henna)

The Sangeet turns into the mehendi event where beautiful henna is applied to the bride’s hands, arms, feet, and legs (and sometimes the face too!) following with songs and dance. This event is dominated by bright colors like yellow, orange, and red, but royal colors are also trending!

Colors: We recommend dark green because it can give off a very royal look and compliments the mehendi on your hands! Check out our emerald green Mahira lehenga for a majestic mehendi look!

Day 3 – Wedding + Reception

For the Indian wedding ceremony and reception dinner, dance, and drinks that follow, we recommend going all out! Wear that regal outfit you’ve been eyeing on IG! From the Desi Is Me shop we recommend the Akaash lehenga or Little Black Lehenga for these events.
